Compared to Fletcher and the Falling Leaves I like this much more, and not only because the mom actually explains what is happening, and what will happen in the spring. It's more fun, imo. I prefer the humorous art, and the lighter, less sentimental tone. And I think real children will like Pip more than Fletcher, too. I'd love to see the reactions of children who read both.
Loved this book, its so cute and sweet. the illustrations match perfectly with the theme and the text. Perfect book for around fall time to teach kids about the changing leafs.
This fictional picture book tells the story of a young squirrel, Pip, who wakes up to find that his home, a tree, is changing; it has lost many leaves. Panicked, Pip scrambles to try and fix his tree, even enlisting the help of another squirrel. However, all attempts fail. Finally, Pip’s mother explains that it is normal for trees to lose leaves in the fall, but that the leaves will come back in the spring. Pip ultimately accepts this, even admitting to liking the sunset-colored leaves. This book has decently large, bold print with one to several sentences per page. The colorful artwork appears to be formed using layered paper. This would be a great read-aloud book for all early elementary grades, as well as a useful book for show more independent reading for somewhat experienced readers; the words are minimally to moderately difficult with little repetition. The story highlights a key element of the autumn season (colorful, falling leaves) in the context of an endearingly simple, entertaining tale. show less
I think this book is a great way to explain autumn, and that change is okay even though we may not want it or expect it. This book is great if their is change in the classroom or in a child's life.
I really enjoyed this picture book. I think it would be perfect to introduce fall and the things that happen in fall to young children.
this book was very adorable. the illustrations were visually pleasing and the story line was very silly and perfect for young children.
Summary: Sam the squirrel has a problem: the leaves are falling off the trees! And no matter how he tries he can't put them back on again. But, when you can play in the colorful leaves, maybe it's not so bad that they fall off.
Review: I really enjoyed this book! I read it with a kindergarten class who absolutely loved it. They thought Sam was quite funny for trying to put leaves back on the trees.
Craft Elements/Lesson: What is one way Sam might have tried to put the leaves back on the tree?
Draw your own fall leaf. Color it your favorite fall color.
