Rough Riders, Book 7

Soldier Cameron McKay has found his niche, and it ain't ropin' steers and wearin' spurs. His deputy sheriff job, plus battle injuries that ended his military career, keep him right where he wants to be: Off the ranch and away from his family's pity. His darkest war memories are on lockdown, leaving him skeptical he'll ever find a woman who wants a man who's less than whole.

Domini Katzinski has had to control every show more aspect of her life since age eleven, when she was orphaned in the Ukraine. Watching others' relationships crumble has convinced her to focus on the short-term and find a take-charge man to whom she can relinquish total sexual control. Cam fits the bill: gorgeous, with a brooding vulnerability no one else seems to see. Plus, he has his own handcuffs.

Once Cam gets over his surprise that sweet, shy Domini wants to be dominated, he is back to issuing orders. Their passion is as hot as a rocket-propelled grenade—and if Domini has her way, it's a one-shot deal. Cam wants more, and launches a full-out sensual assault...until tragedy strikes, forcing him to change tactics as he tries to keep past demons from blowing their future together all to hell...

4.5 stars because I can't decide whether to give 4 or 5 stars. I really liked this book even though I wasn't expecting to. Cam and Domini never really seemed like they had much personality, so I was afraid this book would be boring, but I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't. I love Cam after reading this book. Domini was a bit annoying after she ignored her twenty opportunities to tell Cam about her hysterectomy even after she wouldn't let him hide his prosthesis, but I get her reasoning, and it wasn't enough to ruin the book for me.

I was annoyed that Kane was again called Buck in this book though, so I looked it up on Lorelei James's website, and I thought the explanation was a little funny. I hope it was meant to be that way, and show more that the author was making fun of herself and her editors for missing this in books 6 & 7. show less

This book definitely had me crying. I continue to be amazed that Ms. James takes on topics that so many of us have a hard time dealing with and showing how we can be better people if we just try. We have become so enamored with beauty, youth and size that we are offended by anyone that isn't the ideal or some of us are that way. I am glad that Cam was able to find someone that could take him on and make him see what needed to be done to start living again instead of existing. I am also glad that Ms. James is showing how devastating it can be to lose loved ones to death. I think as a country so many have forgotten what it is to be a family and take care of each other. I loved this book as well as the series. These are the show more normal erotic romance, these are stories that will make you think and make you feel wonderful when they end.

As I have said in earlier reviews this series is about a family and all that can happen within a family. We get the story of the single son of Carson and Carolyn’s family. We have read about Cameron West McKay in a few of the earlier books. Cam didn't want to be a cowboy so he became a solider. In ROUGH, RAW AND READY we learn that Cam is injured in an attack while serving in Afghanistan. Cam loses a leg and has lots of scars from shrapnel. Cam has isolated himself from his family because he does want anyone’s sympathy or pity. Cam finds a woman that makes his heart race but he doesn’t think she can handle the wicked lover that he hides. Domini Katzinski has waited for Cam to make up his mind about making the first move. Domini takes Keely's advice about how to handle Cam. After a few false starts these two finally get together and start down the long road to falling in love.

I have no idea what it must be like to lose a limb in a combat situation. Cam is suffering from PTSD and is ashamed of his injuries. He is a strong, compassionate, and caring man that thinks no woman will ever be able to look past his injuries and deal with his strong dominate side. He is mooning over Domini but can’t work up the nerve to make the first move. When he finally lets go he is 100% alpha male and he is hot as a firecracker. Cam is also imaginative which makes sex with him an adventure every single time. I don’t think there is much that Cam wouldn'’t try. I respect Cam for bucking tradition and becoming a soldier. I am sure that his family gave him hell about going off to war. There is one part in this story that is very sad and it is the worst part of being part of a police department in a small town.

Domini is a refugee from Ukraine, Chernobyl to be exact. She has been an orphan since she was eleven years old and she has some emotional scars from that time. She is dead set against marriage but she wants to have sex with Cam. At a girls night out Keely suggests that Domini should invite Cam up to her apartment and greet without any clothes. Domini has made a life for herself in Sundance. She is the manager of Dewey’s Delish Dish and she has a number of friends including Nadia who we met in TIED UP, TIED DOWN. Through a tragic accident Domini becomes the guardian of Anton, Nadia’s son, but she needs Cam’s help to make the guardianship permanent.

I will warn everyone that there is a double tragedy in this story so keep the tissues handy. There is also bondage, anal sex, a menage, and sex all over the house. Domini and Cam burn up the pages each and every time they come together. There are also a number of revelations for Cam in this story and I am glad that they happened so Cam can finally fully heal. This story sets up several of the next books in this series.

This book was amazing. I absolutely loved Cam and Domini. They were perfect together and it was so easy to see why they loved each other. Domini gave Cam strength he didn't realize he needed and Cam made Domini realize unconditional love. Not everything was perfect for them and it was nice seeing them work out their issues. This was one emotionally charged book that I definitely recommend.
Cop and immigrant from Ukraine. She's shy and he feels less than a man due to his loss of his leg. He also worries she can't handle his 'darker' needs. Obviously he's wrong :)
3 1/2 stars. Started out as 5 stars, but got just to predictable with the kid and family stuff.
