What a refreshing, fun read. I laughed out loud more times than I could count while reading, and it was just what I needed.
The voice of both Brady and Heaven were so hilariously unique, and their senses of humor were completely in line with mine, hence all the cackling that happened. I do so love a good narrative, especially one that can artfully sprinkle pop culture references throughout, and this one succeeded in both.
A couple things made me knock this down from 5 stars: 1) Parts of the book seemed to drag. There were times when I wanted to smack Brady and/or Heaven upside the head and tell them to get their shit together already! 2) There were small details that were inconsistent, where all of the sudden Heaven knew something about show more Brady that he hadn't previously disclosed, or vice versa. A lot of times, I was scratching my head wondering if I'd missed a page (or ten). And 3) The ending was cute, but totally OOC to me.
All in all, though, this was a fun, unique, refreshing read. One that I'll definitely put on my forever-reread list. show less

ok....so i have not laughed this hard in a long time.....it really was laugh out loud funny....this is not a book for everyone.....if you don't like chick lit....don't bother...BUT if you need something light and funny to take your mind off things...this will do it. interestingly enough for me....i saw a lot of Brady in myself...which was strange....but i got a kick out of it.....it will be very interesting who they get to be in this film.....which surely has already been picked up by a studio (if they are smart.....hmmm...you have the rest of the year to make it and release in June or July....)
really worth picking up to just have fun with!!

Like most chick lit, it's like cotton candy for your brain (no nutritional value whatsoever, but full of sugary goodness). It's not terribly original (Heaven and Brady, the two main characters, meet, and initially they just hate each other...I think we can all see where this is going), but I found it entertaining anyway. Don't expect it to "wow" you; just accept it for what it is - well-written and mildly humorous light fiction - and enjoy. Good plane or beach reading!

I've read this book more than a few times but this is the first time I've read it this year. Is it the best book I've ever read? Definitely not. But it's hilarious, and sweet, and honestly Heaven's experience working at the restaurant really resonated with me, given my food service industry past. This is one of those books that I turn to when I just want to read a book that I know I'm going to like. There's not a lot of depth to it - I think it's safe to say that it's more of a junk food sort of book than anything.
But sometimes that's exactly what a reader needs.

I found the beginning of this story of mismatched neighbours slow out of the gate. The publisher's blurb and a couple of short reviews adequately covered the main elements of the plot, including the happy resolution. Consequently the initial build-up seemed unduly slow.
My slight impatience evaporated as I found myself captivated by the quality of Ms Crane's writing. The jokes, the dialogues, the pop references, the sub-plots, and supporting characters made for light, easy and enjoyable reading. I lost sight of the inevitable ending and settled down to enjoy the fun ride.
The author's note at the end of the book was unexpectedly original, informative and -- yet again -- fun.

I didn't like the beginning of the book. It was weird for me, but the voice(s) of the story intrigued me enough that I soldiered on. I'm glad I did. Heaven is a little bit psycho, and I don't think I'd want her as a neighbor, with her predilection for opening others mail, and bulldozing her way into lives...but shes hilarious from afar. The alternating voice/chapters, sometimes only 1 page long, was annoying at first. I've read books with this voice a lot, but the author carried it out with style. Loved the book. It was funny, whimsical, sharp. The characters are people I'd love to meet, hang out with, party with at the Riot Hotel. Another fun trait of the book, was the pop culture references...it was like recognizing a bit of yourself show more in the book when you'd read them. This book was heads above her second book Forget About, which petered out for me in plot. Still great writing, the plot suffered though. I'm excited to the next great thing from Caprice Crane. show less
This book has fast become one of my guilty pleasures. The two main characters are flawed but loveable and the story is as hilarious as it is poignant. There are a lot of great music and pop culture references sprinkled throughout the entire book. I actually laughed out loud on several occasions while reading this book and that doesn't often happen with me.
