Morpha: A Rain Forest Story (Wilderness Kids)

A Blue Morpho butterfly emerges from her chrysalis and learns about the world around her, exploring many parts of the rainforest and meeting other animals. Human activity that destroys natural habitats is mentioned, but the book ends hopefully with a bunch of people living sustainably and helping out Morpha and her friends.

This book is a clever way to take a lot of informational content and re-package it within a fictional context. We follow the one character and are given a ton of knowledge in little bits so that it seems conversational rather than like a lecture. However, there is still a lot of text on each page and a great deal of information to absorb; therefore, this book is most appropriate for kids in the older elementary school show more age range.

Full-color illustrations round out the book with a look at the many different animals and environments mentioned in the text. show less
