Reproductions of several of Van Gogh's works with what, in his letters to his brother Theo, he said about the colors in the paintings. While I loved the painting reproductions, I would have loved to know more about what the artist said about them.
Wow, what a nice book for introducing Van Gogh to children!! The book includes several of Van Gogh's more well-known, brightly colored paintings, with descriptive words that many young readers have already mastered.
Loved it. Simple, beautiful, worked as a read-aloud and for small group. So much to look at!
"Vincent's Colors" with words and pictures by Vincent van Gogh, is a non-fiction picture book. This book is a book filled with famous paintings and pieces from the famous Vincent van Gogh. Each page has a new painting on it with a sentence describing the painting. This book focuses on the colors in the paintings and what the painting is. I would recommend this book for pre k-1st grade. The book is very easy to read, maybe too easy for 2nd grade and above. I would definitely use this book in my classroom when teaching colors.

I have found such few children's book on art, and this one is amazing! A great intro to a classic artist!
3yrs.-7yrs.
The colors are bright and vibrant to stimulate the mind's of young children, it contains many of Van Gogh's famous paintings but that each painting has a describing his paintings. I think this a great way to introduce kids to art.
I love van Gogh, so I'm a bit biased -- but this book is fun.

Vincent van Gogh was one of the great post-impressionist masters and, because of the power and accessibility of his work and the tragedy and dedication of his life, he became a legend as an artist. He was born on March 30, 1853 in the Netherlands. The son of a Dutch parson, he was largely self-taught as an artist. Ascetic and intensely spiritual, show more he viewed art as almost a religious vocation. He painted incessantly and left a vast volume of work but sold only one picture during his lifetime. In 1888, van Gogh went to Arles in search of the glowing sunlight, there breaking from the somber, earthbound realism of his early style to the brilliant color, passionate thick brushstrokes, and incredible joyousness of his later style. Some of these paintings include: The Yellow House, Bedroom in Arles, The red vineyard, and paul Gauguin's Armchair. Although he suffered a mental breakdown in his later years, he still went on to paint masterpieces like Starry Night and The Sower. On July 27, 1890 he is said to have shot himself. Many believe this was a suicide act, but others maintain it was accidental or that he was shot by neighboring kids with a "malfunctioning" gun. The gun was never found. His letters to his brother Theo are a moving and fascinating account of his working processes and the agony and drama of his daily life. Van Gogh was buried on July 30 in the municipal cemetery of Auvers-sur-Oise at a funeral attended by his brother, Theo van Gogh, who died six months later, on January 25, 1891. They are buried side by side. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
