Description

Widely regarded as one of the most talented novelists the world has ever produced, Leo Tolstoy began his work in long-form fiction with a series of three novels based loosely on his own life experiences. In Childhood, Tolstoy recounts the innocent joys of his early life and the gradual progression toward a more cynical, mature adult view of the world—a process that the author regards as tragic.

The first story Tolstoy ever wrote- not amazingly written, but good and introduces most of his major concerns. First reading for Tolstoy class.
A wonderful book of a young boy, son of a large landholder in a Russia that seems far away in the past.
I read this book aloud at bedtime and found that it would put my audience soon to sleep! I continued to read to the end of the chapter if that happened (it would have taken a year to finish it otherwise...) and pronouncing the names was fun right from the start.
A few months seen through the eyes of a ten year old, a boyhood with beautiful, sad, silly and heartfelt moments.

Good honest account. This is not a proper review as too tired.
