I think it's safe to say that I'm addicted to these books. Lord knows what I'm going to do when I run out of Night Huntress books to read. I can be listening to perfectly good audiobooks and I just keep thinking that there's still Night Huntress books that I haven't listened to yet. But to this book in particular, it was great. I loved seeing another side of the emotionless and stoic Mencheres that we'd seen so far in the other books. In this book, Mencheres falls hard and fast for Kira and we get to see his walls come down. We also get to see/hear what's in his head and his thoughts are anything but emotionless. And Kira is a terrific main character. She's strong and thinks things out. She refuses to be swayed from her beliefs by show more something that's misleading.

This was a very good story. I liked the narrator much better in this book than I do in the Cat and Bones stories. I think that's mostly because she wasn't screwing up Mencheres' voice the way she does Bones'.

I do have to admit, though, I will be glad to get back to a book starring Cat and Bones.

Loved this Night Huntress spin-off! Mencheres has always been something of a mysterious character in the Night Huntress books, sometimes seeming cold and uncaring. Well, I suppose that surviving over 4000 years does that to a guy. He's had to do some pretty nasty things over those many years, and he's none too proud of them. In fact, after giving half of his powers to chosen co-ruler Bones, Mencheres is just about ready to hang up his fangs for good, especially since he no longer sees visions of the future. He thinks that the only thing left for him is eternal darkness. Well, it turns out he was right, only not exactly in the way that he thought. When Kira Graceling accidentally enters his life, he finds that perhaps he has something show more left to live for after all. Of course, there are also bad guys to be battled, help from Bones, Cat, and Vlad to be summoned, and some Law Guardian business to settle. There were some really good reasons in the Night Huntress books NOT to like Mencheres, but Eternal Kiss of Darkness goes a long ways towards explaining his actions, and I think by the end you'll forgive him. show less
It is no secret that I am a major fan of the Night Huntress series. Cat & Bones are one of the most stellar couples in the PNR universe. So, it would make sense that I pick up the Night Huntress World books. I enjoyed Spade’s book, First Drop of Crimson, but I can’t say I was too excited for Mencheres’ story. I’ve never thought of him as sexy, he was always a bit scary (he posses MAJOR amounts of power) and aloof. Emotionally detached. Well, that has definitely ALL changed now! Frost managed to add depth, interest, compassion and actually breathed life back into Mencheres’ character. She also described his Egyptian history, which was some of my favorite scenes in the book. Just awesome! And, Mencheres might be older than dirt, show more but in this world - the older you are, the more power you have to make your partner’s body explode with euphoric sensations! *sizzle*

I enjoyed Kira from the get go. She is intelligent, independent and courageous, and she refuses to endanger humanity. Her sense of duty to help others led her to find Mencheres. Once he told her of the world she just stumbled upon, she took it like a champ. She is very strong-willed – Mencheres actually can’t breach her mind. He won’t let Kira go until he can erase her memories (he can’t risk her blabbing about his race). Kira isn’t very happy about this and she challenges him from the start. She was never once afraid of him. After Kira’s sister falls very ill (she has a chronic condition), Mencheres makes a very compassionate move. Of course, a big evil bad ass is out get Mencheres and a series of events puts him and Kira in an ugly predicament. However, I find they work quite well as a team. Kira is a good match for Mencheres. She levels him out a bit, and she stand up to him, mentally.

Of course, Cat & Bones make an appearance and I must say, I hated the scene they were in. Maybe it was the situation and their reluctance to believe Mencheres, but I was kind of pissed at both of them. *shakes fist* Bones is Mencheres’ co-ruler so he obviously doesn’t fight against him, but the attitudes in that scene were ugly. AND, Frost delivers the real goods: VLAD! He had serious airtime in this book! I love that hot vampire piece of ass something fierce and I am looking forward to his book!

Eternal Kiss of Darkness was fantastic, full of danger, intense emotions, compassion and loyalty. I think Frost wrote some of the best sex scenes I’ve yet read from her (not including Chapter 32, of course!). *holyhotshowersceneandceilingsexwhoa* I want to have ceiling sex, please. :) There wasn’t as much humor in this book, probably due to Mencheres’ serious, dignified persona, but I enjoyed what we got. Frost’s sense of humor never lets me down! And I am so pleased at Kira’s new job prospect. She is gonna rock it!

First I wanna say that before reading this book I thought Mencheres was an egotistical ass. I was hoping that by losing his mojo and seeing things from his POV that my opinion of him would change. Boy did it ever. I found that it wasn't that he was an asshole but that he just shut everybody out and didn't feel like he could completely trust anyone. He would spend hours at the bottom of a bathtub or swimming pool just to shut everything out. I guess you could say that being underwater was his fortress of solitude. Mencheres is a 4,500 year old master vampire, has incredible wealth and power and has never had anyone in his life that didn't want and/or expect something from him. That is until he met Kira. I really liked Kira. For one she show more was exactly what Mencheres needed and she was incredibly smart, sassy and didn't take crap from Mencheres. She talked to him in a way that no one dared talk to him due to his status and power and he in turn fell hard for her.The chemistry between Mencheres and Kira was strong from the beginning. As with all of Jeaniene's work, the sex scenes were smoking hot. Mencheres has skills beyond imagination. He is so powerful that he can completely envelope someone's body with pleasure without even touching them. At one point Kira refers to his tongue being like a vibrator set to oh hell yeah! That is probably my favorite line from the book.Cat and Bones make an appearance though it was mostly hostile as they were still pissed at Mencheres for manipulating them. I loved that Kira defended Mencheres and put them in their place. Oh and my favorite character in the series, Vlad showed up! Squee!!! I loves me some Vlad and seeing him interact with Kira and Mencheres lets you see him from a different perspective. This book made me love him that much more. Damn I hope he gets his own series. He deserves it.Jeaniene did something I didn't think possible. She made me feel bad that I thought Mencheres was a douchebag. I know it's silly but I felt the need to apologize to him for thinking horrible things about him. Like a lot of people he was simply misunderstood. I will view him differently from now on.Unlike First Drop of Crimson, which I did not want to end, I felt that the storyline in Eternal Kiss of Darkness was wrapped up and I was satisfied with leaving the characters. Getting a glimpse of the new Cat and Bones book was just icing on the cake.I highly recommend this book. show less
I liked this better than the first Night Huntress World book, First Drop of Crimson. But I hate the covers of both of them. They both look a little amateur and way too creepy. I was glad I read the eBook version so I didn't have to see the cover every time I put down the book. Other than that, the plot itself was pretty good.

Kira was a great heroine. Strong and capable. What I was worried about was that she would completely freak out when she learned about vampires. She did a little bit which is good because who wouldn't, right? But she wasn't like Shanna from How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. That would have been annoying. The rest of the characters were fine too. Vlad's appearance in this book was amazing. I can't wait to read more show more about him in Once Burned. I did not like when Bones and Cat made their appearance. They didn't really seem like themselves and came off a bit paranoid and irritating.

Plot was moving at a good pace. Not very fast and I would have loved to see a little more action, especially towards the end. The story was great and the romance between Kira and Mencheres was a little quick, but well developed. I was able to predict the ending. It was a little anticlimactic. I really expected more to happen. Like a really big battle to the death scene.

Overall, this book was good. I'd say more romance than action, which is why I shelved it as a PNR. I suggest you read this book before reading This Side of the Grave because they're very connected even though this is a spin-off series. Reading this before will help you understand the story in This Side of the Grave better. It's nothing major, but the story will just flow better that way. And if you read this after like I did, you may find some spoilers for this book in TSOTG

This review won't be long. If you have read and enjoyed previous Jeaniene Frost books, I see no reason you won't like this one.

The heroine has a great, wry sense of humor. She is down to earth (well, as down to earth as you can expect a vampire to be) and practical. She is not TSTL (well, too stupid to stay undead) and she cuts through a lot of the crap and emotionalism.

The hero is the emo one, but that is understandable since he is 4,000 years old. Things must get wearing in that amount of time. I mean, geez, how many times can you fly down off a building and move people through the air with your mere thoughts without it wearing on you.

I listened to the audiobook and as always, Tavia Gilbert does a fabulous jobs. Between the characters show more in the current book and all the other of the series she has done, there must be 50 different voices she has to come up with. Granted, not all of those are in every book, but she does an excellent job of remembering/repeating the previous voices for previous characters. show less
The 2nd book in The Night Huntress World Books “The Eternal Kiss Of Darkness” is about the elusive and all-powerful vampire, Mencheres, and his lifelong feud with another powerful vampire, Radjedef. Thrown into the middle of this battle is Kira, a human private investigator, who happens to become the most important person in Mencheres long life. We open this story with Kira basically saving Mencheres from his own suicide plan, which was “death by ghoul attack”. Mencheres could easily fight off a band of ghouls, but was allowing them to basically do what they want, until Kira showed up to save him. Mencheres is then required to save Kira as responsible for clearing her mind of all things supernatural. The problem occurs when show more Mencheres, over a week in Kira;s company, finds she is resistant to mind-control. He also finds he is extremely attracted to Kira, but believes he is destined for the grave. Mencheres has chosen this path feeling it will protect the ones he cares about and end the feud with Radjedef. The only problem is Kira makes him want to live.

I personally loved this book as much as her last one about Spade. Mencheres proves to be a complex character with a long history of decisions that he has made because of his visions and knowledge. He is a very isolated individual emotionally because of what he has done, and some of the people he care the most for doubt his motivations. The really tragedy is that Mencheres feels that very few people in his life are there because they truly want to be, but stay because they have something to gain. The exception is Kira. He sees Kira as the one person who looks at him as an individual and likes what she sees. Throughout the book she will leave him speechless with each new time she ‘sees’ him and only him.

Kira is a great heroine for this novel and enjoyed her fire and energy. She relies on her instincts and feelings, which eerily have never been wrong about situations or people. She meets Mencheres and her instincts says,” Mine”. She then goes out to find him, no matter what happens. She also deals with him being a vampire rather quickly, based on her instincts. Kira is strong and determined and loyal. She looks at Mencheres, a 4000 year old vampire, and tells him he is wrong and to trust her. Man, you got to love someone with this kind of confidence. I love the scene with Cat and Bones. Kira really shows her inner strength in front of 2 very strong individuals and people Mencheres needs and cares about. Kira also is practical and has confidence in Mencheres. She allows him to fight Radjedef, alone. Overall, I loved this book and give it my highest recommendation. I had only one complaint. I would have liked to seen and epilogue at the end of the book. How the book ended felt almost cut off, like there should have been something more. The ending was good, but adding an epilogue would have been the cherry on top of the sundae. 5 stars
