Description

For over 3,000 years, Rome has been home to popes and poets, emperors, fascists and fashionistas, and is one of the world's most visited cities. Readers will welcome the compact edition of this Then and Now title. Incredible then-and-now photographs illustrate Rome's great works of architecture and historic sites and compare, for example, the spectacle of hundreds of horse-drawn carriages in the Piazza St. Peter in 1870 to today's open piazza.

I am always fascinated to see how things and people can change. The author is a native of Rome with a BA in art history among other qualifications. In some of the photos a gap of 60 - 70 years shows minimal change, while in others, whole buildings have disappeared and you have to look hard to recognise the similarities.
