The investigation of the death of a woman who died in a fire leads Beau and his partner, Sue, on a rapid chase that leads to a myriad of threats, curses, and death. The recent discovery of some old bones are believed to have come from a Native American burial place. A professor at a local university comes to Beau with a cautionary tale of curses associated with their discovery. Sue is dealing with problems her ex-husband is causing. Meanwhile, Beau’s nemesis is causing him problems at work. Eventually, things circle back to the first crime he is investigating. Much happens in this thrilling edition to the series. It’s action-packed, tightly written, and quite exciting, but be forewarned: it is also quite sad, and sends Beau on a new show more trajectory. The audio version is very well narrated by Gene Engene. He has become the voice of J P Beaumont, and does an excellent job of performing all the other characters as well. show less
It's been forever since we've had a new Beaumont. J.P. Beaumont, Seattle Homicide Detective, is oh so thankfully back. A assumedly impoverished woman no one seems to morn is burned to death in an arson fire and then $300,000 is found in an old refrigerator in her garage. A group of kids stage a role playing party and discover real bones. These stories are woven into the plot that surrounds Seattle like the rest of this series. It was like visiting with a good friend you haven't seen in a long time.
Wild story that started from a woman dying in a house fire. She smoked, so the investigators chalked it up to sad accident and closed the case. Turns out it wasn't nearly so simple, especially after $30k was discovered in an old refrigerator in her garage.
Liked (well saddened) by Beau's partner's death. On the one hand, the "curse" was interesting and showed JP to be sensitive, but it would have been better to ultimately have a plausible explanation.
JP solves the murder of an older woman who is killed in a house fire. Also, he tracks down the owner of human bones discovered in a Seattle park.
even after re-read, hard to follow. Least favorite of the series.
Good book to help falling asleep
