Description

Dora Maar was already a photographer of significant standing by the time she met Picasso. She was to stay with him as lover and muse for seven years before their stormy relationship reached a painful end in 1943. This biography denies the myth that she remained a tragic figure, broken by genius.

Durante siete años Dora Maar mantuvo una relación tempestuosa con Picasso. En el transcurso de esos años lo fotografió ocupado en su trabajo o bien en sus ratos de asueto, en el taller o en la playa, solo o con amigos como Man Ray, André Breton, Jacqueline Lamba o Paul Eluard. En 1937 creó un documento fotográfico único al retratar el proceso de creación del Guernica, la obra con que Picasso protestó contra la masacre de la guerra civil española. Los rasgos de Dora quedaron inmortalizados, por un lado, en la mujer que lleva la lámpara en el Guernica y, por otro, en las desgarradores distorsiones de la Mujer llorando, la imagen con la que Picasso consiguió expresar con suma agudeza la angustia pública y privada de esos años.
