An early work by Tuten, who can be a pretty hit-or-miss kind of writer (unless you really go for his style). This one is like a scrapbook of writing, various intentions and styles all mixed up under the theme of Mao's Long March. Some of it was interesting, but not a great deal, and the book itself certainly has something of the "self-published" feel to it.

Frederic Tuten is the author of five novels as well as a book of interwoven short stories. His short stories, art, and film criticism have appeared in Artforum, the New York Times, Vogue, Granta, Harper's, Bomb, and Conjunctions, among other publications. He is the recipient of three Pushcart prizes and an O'Henry prize for fiction.
