First class mystery writing with well drawn villain, heroic maiden and stock extras. If it's raining outside and you want a novel you can chew through in a day, here's a stand out example. Collins was a great man for well plotted popular Victorian fiction.
There are two short stories with a sea voyaging theme included in my copy; both intended for magazine inclusion, I imagine. Again, as short stories they are excellent examples of the craft.

Short romance drama story. Not a particularly pleasant set of characters, however a satisfying end.
Dramatic ending!
