A good book, but the back-cover summary is so misleading! Rachel doesn't lose the guinea pig baby until nearly the end of the book, after her parents let her keep it. Most of the book is about Rachel trying to learn how to care for animals and convince her father to let her keep one. And no offense, but if I was her parent I wouldn't. She proves her irresponsibility around animals more then once, and each time it's serious enough to potentially threaten the animal's life! Letting a post-op dog run away, risking infections by putting two recovering dogs in the same cage, putting a baby guinea pig in the trunk of a junk-car.... She is obviously doesn't have the common-sense and responsibility to have a pet!

I liked the book because it was about a guinea pig. I want to get a guinea pig for Christmas. They are good pets because they are like bunnies--they are very cuddly.
