When George Beard and Harold Hutchins the merry pranksters of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School concoct a scheme to fool the school lunchroom cooks into whipping up a batch of exploding cupcakes as a birthday surprise for the principal, they have no idea of the catastrophic consequences that will follow. At the time when the big “KA-BLOOOOSH!" comes, their school is invaded by extraterrestrial aliens bent on world domination who turn their classmates into obedient lunchroom zombie nerds! In a desperate move to save them, the entire planet, and Captain Underpants, George and Harold use alien EXTRA-STRENGTH SUPERPOWER JUICE to give their underwear wearing principal real superpowers (gasp) which leads to incredibly graphic violence in show more FLIP-O-RAMA™ in this delightfully silly third episode of the Captain Underpants series. show less
Like Time Warp Trio, this is a book that I’ve grown to love for its ability to reach the reluctant readers, including my own younger son. The humor verge into gross-ology, but it is actually written in a more sophisticated manner than one might originally think. Like many of the popular books of this genre, it moves fast and keeps a reader engaged who normally would want to drop the book and go somewhere else. Again from personal experience, I was able to read this book with my son and have a great time laughing out loud at ridiculous events but pore over pages to laugh more at the drawings that permeate these books.
I thought I will ran out of breath while reading the title of this book. So far, this is the funniest and silliest I've read in this graphic novel series. Underwear Cave cracked me up and readers will be entertain with the other funny lines in this 3rd installment. If you are suffering due to stress or just want to have a good laugh, then try to read this and the other books in this series.
The overall message of this book is that good will always win over evil.
I thought that this book was quite interesting and humorous. I enjoyed the witty comments that are incorporated throughout the book for older readers. I, as an older reader, thoroughly enjoyed this comments because they are filled with sarcasm. One of the comments that I enjoyed was “but we’re running out of pages. Let’s do it.”. I thought it was funny because characters in books almost never know that they are actually in a book so it was funny to see one being aware of that.
Along with the sarcasm, I enjoyed the overall plot because it is quite creative and imaginative. To have aliens take over a cafeteria and ultimately the world is quite an interesting show more topic aimed for 5-6th graders. I also enjoyed that this book had sections that contain flashbacks or even comic book strips. show less

George and Harold continue their 4th grade year after accidentally hypnotizing their principal to believe he is a superhero known as 'Captain Underpants' and in this time three aliens land on the school roof, fool their way into becoming lunch ladies, and turn students into zombie nerds. The many misspellings and unbelievable plot progression have me cringing every other page, but the book is heavy with grade school bathroom humor and consists of many short chapters. It's also possible to read the book in sections or to read just the comic book parts--all important things to many grade school reluctant readers. Hopefully most kids will find the spelling errors humorous and be inspired to create comic books of their own. Good "bring 'em show more in" book for a library. I'd recommend to reluctant readers in grades 2-6 and to younger readers who may be reading comfortably, but who are not at a maturity level for full chapter books. show less
Read this one third in my journey to further appreciate graphic novels (and CU, specifically).
This one dragged on too long and wasn't nearly as funny as #1.

{My thoughts} – George and Harold decide to take a hint from their science teacher. For their newest prank they decide to create an exploding cupcake recipe and deliver it to the school cooks. The cooks decide to make a huge batch and you guessed it, it makes a huge mess. All the school cooks decide to quit their jobs.
George and Harold get in trouble and are banned from the lunch room. I’d have to say in their case it’s a rather convenient punishment. Harold and George quickly learn that the new lunch ladies aren’t on the up and up. They go to tell their principal what they learned and of course he doesn’t believe them.
If you’d like to know what happens in the remainder of the book, you’ll need to read it. I really enjoyed show more reading through to the end and look forward to reading the next book in the series soon. show less
