A Picnic in the Woods, by Walt Disney Productions, is about Mickey, Minnie, and his nephews to a park for the day. They spend their day playing basesball, getting caught in the rain, eating hot dogs, taking a walk, pickinng blackberries, and getting bit by misquitoes. This is a very cute book filled with children's favorite characters.
I would use this as a guided reading book, but also have this as an option in my classroom library because children (depending on the age) should know most of the words, even if they have to sound some out. Another feature I like about this book is that when Mickey, Minnie, and the nephews take a walk, there is a page of animals they see. The page has a picture of the animal and a label telling the reader what it is. This occurs on several pages, showing animals like squirrels, deer, and turtles, as well as plants like a dandelion, ferns, and black-eyed Susan's. This is helpful for children so they can see what the words look like, even if they know by looking at the picture what the animal is.

This is a great book re: nature. It can be a little "tedious" to read. Yet, it would be a great book to read before beginning nature studies. ( )
