Dirk Adams is a changeling, he has some of the abilities and powers of vampires but is still human. He tries to defeat vampires and protect humanity along with others in his group.
Bethany Stavinoski is a top biochemist and is doing research on a project that has gone from mundane to dangerous. Not due to the chemicals involved but due to people chasing her. She's engaged to the owner of the business but there appears to be something missing. When Dirk rescues her, neither of them really want to be in a relationship but the two of them end up questioning some of their assumptions.
I did like Bethany, she's a strong character and comes across often as being the distracted scientist. There's nothing deep in it but it's fun. ( )

When Dirk promises to protect Beth with his life he finds himself in danger, of losing his heart (I know, kind of corny, but you get the picture. I'm a bit tired this morning!)

This is the second book in Robin Popp's Night Slayer series. There are a great deal of paranormal romance series out there to choose from and this is one that I intend to keep up with. The idea of a big happy family of slayers living under one roof is kind of well, sweet. I've liked most of the characters introduced so far and am looking forward to reading the next installment. ( )
