One of the most noted of the "village writers," the prolific Soloukhin started to publish in 1946. His prose celebrates the countryside, both nature and town. A twentieth-century Slavophile, Soloukhin is concerned about the destruction of Russia's cultural monuments, particularly churches and icons, as evidenced in his controversial Letters from show more the Russian Museum (1966). Vladimir Country Roads (1953), a lyrical account of a walking trip in central Russia, is one of his best-known works. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
