There's only one problem--cranky legs keep him from climbing up to pick the pears. His ingenious solution will have young readers cheering him on.
This is one of our family favorites. It's a cute story about a man named Mr. Putter who has a situation he needs to resolve. It's fall and Mr. Putter is dreaming of pear jelly - his favorite since childhood. But when he climbs the tree to pick the pears he finds he can't because of his'cranky legs'. His witty solution is sure to make both children and adults of any age, laugh.
Mr. Putter and Tabby love the juicy goodies fall brings, particularly pear jelly. When Mr. Putter goes to pick the pears from his tree, his old, cranky legs won’t let him climb the ladder. Mr. Putter improvises a slingshot to shoot them down using fallen apples, with hilarious results.

“Mr. Putter & Tabby Pick the Pears” was written by Cynthia Rylant. It’s about an old man, named Mr. Putter, trying to pick pears but he has cranky legs. He had an idea. This book makes me feel happy, because Mr. Putter is trying his best. Tabby and Zeke are my favorite characters. When Zeke and Mrs. Teaberry came by they were funny. I think people who like funny books should read this book. I give this book three out of five stars! - E.J. Kim, Tulip Class, February 2018
A good book that could used for educational or entertaining purposes. It talks about seasons, fruits, and night/day time with great illustrations.
Mr. Putter is an old man with an old cat. His love for pear jelly is evident throughout the book, but is discouraged when his "cranky legs" get the best of him. However, with his smart mind and "jiffy hands", he finds a way to get a hold of the pears that he loves so dearly.
I love this series and am every so thankful that kids do, too. I really want to be neighbors to Mr. Putter and Mrs. Teaberry.
