{My thoughts} – This is a series of books that are in the middle of being republished. They are a loved children’s series that is fairly popular. I am actually enjoying the fact that Scholastic has decided to release them under the Acorn brand.
Poppleton is a fun pig. He lives a simple life and has a nice set of friends. He enjoys spending time with his friends, going to the library and helping his friends when they aren’t feeling well.
This book is written in short sentences on each page, which helps to not overwhelm the young reader. It is nicely illustrated so that the images and the story blend nicely with one another.
At the end of the book is some added content including how to draw your very own Poppleton. I found that to be show more rather neat. I am always interested in seeing how the illustrators create their illustrations.
I look forward to reading more books in this series as they are released. I also can’t wait to share these books with my littles when they are old enough to start reading them! show less

This is the first book in a funny and silly series for early readers. Poppleton the pig is new in town. After initial awkwardness, he becomes fast friends with his neighbor Cherry Sue, develops a library ritual, and tries to help a friend make his medicine more palatable.
Curriculum: the books offer hilarious models for etiquette, negotiating with friends, and problem solving.
Rylant, C. & Teague, M. (1997). Poppleton. New York: Blue Sky Press.

There are three stories in "Poppleton": Neighbors which is about being communicating with and being honest with Cherry Sue that he doesn't always want to come over and eat meals with her, The Library which is about Poppleton's love of readings on Mondays at the Library which is his "favorite day of all" and The Pill which is about helping to hide Fillmore's pill inside "Cherry Sue's Heavenly Cake." Poppleton is lovable, funny and fun! These stories also have extensive vocabulary words including lemony, sunroom, museum, harmonica, dripping, parade, seriously and adventure.

Poppleton is a city pig who got tired of city life and moved to a small house in a small town. He makes friends with his neighbor, Cherry Sue (a llama), goes to the library, and helps his friend Fillmore (a goat) through an illness.
In the vein of Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel.

This book is a chapter book about the adventures of Poppleton in his new small town away from the big city. Poppleton used to be a city pig but he got tired of the city and moved to a small town. This book is about his new neighbors, the local library, and taking care of friends when they're sick.
Genre: fantasy
Summary: This story is about a pig who lives in the country. He has many friends and neighbors and in each chapter he demonstrates ways of handling certain situations. For example in the first chapter he deomnstrates the correct way of talking to a friend about needing alone time. The next lesson talks about much he loves to read, reinforcing childrens love of books. The third was about taking care of our friends.
Critique: i thought it was a good book. I thought it would get things to think about how they treat their friends and maybe demonstrate how to talk to a friend about something they may not like very much. I might use this if i notice that in my class students are not confronting each other.
Grade: 2 or 3

What a great and funny beginners chapter book. It could help children open up and talk about things and maybe help them want to read and help others. A pig name Poppleton lives in the country and has many friends that teach him different ways to handle certain situations that he is going through.
