This book is for grades 2-3.

This book is about Poppleton the pig and his adventures with his friends. The book start with him keeping a close eye on his icicles that everyone but him thinks are safe, until one day, a bird flies by and knocks them all down. Though Poppleton is disappointed, him and the bird use the icicles to create a fence and become close friends. Then, at the end of the book, Poppleton's friends supported him for his birthday, which leaves him thankful for his friendships.

I would read this book in my class and then have students write about how friendship was expressed in this book. Then we could come back together and share out what everyone noticed, such as what makes a true and genuine friend.
“Poppleton in Winter” was written by Cynthia Rylant. It’s about a pig named Poppleton who has adventures with his friends. For example, Poppleton made a bust of his friend Cherry Sue. I think it is a good book because it is funny. My favorite part was when Poppleton and the finch work all day long. I think nine year old children need to read this book because there are many hard words. I give this book four out of five stars! - Tony Choi, Ivy Class, February 2018
There are 3 short stories in the book. Icicles, The Bust, and Sleigh Ride. All have a winter theme, cold outside. Mr. poppleton makes friends- good book for talking about being nice.
