This is the third owl book by Lasky, and it’s more of the same: interesting story, lousy narrative, annoying vocabulary lessons, stupid songs, and, of course, a shark is jumped.
I had serious issues with the way this book ended. To avoid spoilers, I’ll leave it at this: I thought that it was implausible, yet predictable. After reading The Rescue, I wondered “what’s the point of the rest of the series?” There are five more books set in this owl-y world, but really, there’s nothing much to do except rush to the last epic battle with massive fields of owls (and other creatures), probably rendered in film (if they do make a sequel to the Zach Snyder-directed film) by the software Weta used for Lord of the Rings, only a bit more show more feathery.
But, really, the books from here on out will fail to capture my interest, only reading those that I already have, and stopping when I’m done.
If you’re like me, this will be the absolute last Ga’Hoole book you’ll ever need to read. But if you’re like me, you’ll also have two more Ga’Hoole books still on your shelf to read. show less

This is the third book in the Guardians of Ga'hoole. It continues the story of four young owls as they save their kidnapped teacher from the clutches of a Naziesque group of evil owls. Obviously, a nice everyone-is-equal moral is developing in this series.
Appropriate for 3rd or 4th graders.

Soren's mentor, Ezylryb, is missing and no-one is sure where to start looking for him. Soren feels something is wrong and is determined to try, he's sure that Eglantine's ordeal has something to do with all this, he meets with the ghosts of his parents and they warn him about Metal Beak. When he discovers who this is it's a shock.
Interesting instalment in the series. Looking forward to more.

This book moved the story along nicely; however, Lasky became a little too repetitive with descriptions concerning the characters and past events of the book. I found myself skipping paragraphs, which I normally do not do. Hopefully future books are not as repetivie as this one is, though I would still read them because the story is a good one.
Another great entry. Things are really getting more existing with some two great new additions joining the owl duo and with threats to them just getting worse. The adventure just keeps ramping up.

Another solid entry in the Ga'hoole series. The kids and I enjoyed reading it together.
