Description
The stories and memories that shape the identity of a Jewish family of Russian origin living in Finland since the beginning of the 20th century make up this humorous and semi-autobiographical novel. The stories give insight into Benno, a cornetist with the czar's army who left Russia to escape his country's anti-Semitism; his father, a bootlegger who arrived in Finland by skiing there; and his son Arje, a militant communist who fought with the Germans against the Soviets during World War show more II. Most important, however, is the story of Benno's grandson, in whom the trajectories of his predecessors converge and whose ironic and melancholy voice imbue all the stories with meaning as he tries to find his roots within them. Las historias y recuerdos que conforman la identidad de una familia judía de origen ruso instalada en Finlandia desde principios del siglo XX componen esta novela humorística y semi-autobiográfica. Entre las historias está la de Benno, corneta del ejército del zar que salió de Rusia tratando de dejar atrás el clima antisemita de su país; la de su padre, un contrabandista que llegó a Finlandia esquiando; y la de su hijo Arje, militante comunista que durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial luchó en el bando alemán contra los soviéticos. Katz könyve a sokféle káosz egymással való játékáról szól: reakcióba lép egymással a háború káosza, az orosz bürokrácia káosza, a káosz a zsidó családban, mindehhez pedig vegyünk hozzá egy kaotikus írói szerkesztési elvet, ami szilánkokból konstruál valamit, amit csak jobb híján nevezhetünk cselekménynek. Ezekből a káoszokból épül fel a címszereplő Benno nagyapa és Wera nagymama (és a leszármazottak) története – egy igazi, szeretetteljes komédia a famíliáról. Ők ketten még akkor is kvázi főszereplői a szövegnek, amikor már nincsenek ott, mert hiányuk erősíti fel az utolsó fejezetek rezignált szomorúságát – ám még ebben a szomorúságban is vastagon ott van Katz show more humora. Mert ez a könyv, ha üzen egyáltalán valamit, hát azt, hogy a világ nyűge-baja ellen a legjobb védekezés (még a rezignáció ellen is!), ha komédiának tekintjük az egészet.
