Morgan Rowlands discovers that she is not only a witch, but a powerful one, descended from a long line and ancient clan of witches. While struggling to come to terms with her new found strength, she also believes she has found her soul mate, who so happens to be a witch as well. But Cal may not be entirely honest about who he is and his intentions. Being with the love of her life also does not come cheap and the cost may very well be her long time best friend, Bree. Step by step, Morgan begins to discover the secrets behind her parentage, the intensity of her powers, and the question of who is friend, who is foe, becomes a journey of unexpected surprises and twists that she may be unprepared to face.
Witches, witchery, and witchcraft show more has always been a topic that I've found fascinating. Despite being a YA novel filled with over dramatic teenage love and lust, the story of Morgan coming into her own and discovering her ancient heritage was riveting and intriguing. Instead of getting annoyed at the characters (which I tend to do in YA novels), I found Morgan and her supporting cast of friends and enemies to be relatable, multidimensional, and thoroughly engaging. Although I've only scratched the surface of the story and so many questions are yet unanswered, Tiernan has undoubtably whetted my appetite, and I eagerly anticipate the next books in the series. show less

I read the first part (book 1) in 2 days, it was so good and interesting, loved all the information about magic and Wicca, the characters are good and the book makes you want to read more. The writing style is beautiful and I loved the intro to every chapter about witches, I loved the chapter Killburn Abbey, I'm into herbs. The first title means: a diary that witches keep to write notes of spells they try.
(Book 2) Morgan is annoying the crap out of me, so what if she was adopted!? Her parents love her and didn't tell her because they want her to belong, so I don't see why all this Drama is happening?! Still the story is just amazing!!!
(Book 3) Can't wait to start but afraid to finish it, I'm not sure when will I get the 2nd 3 books :( show more I like Hunter more than Cal. I think Morgan should be with Hunter. show less

Honestly, I was expecting to go into this and hate it. I thought it was going to be very YA, and just not something I would get into. I ended up loving this and I am already almost half way through the second book in the series. Excited to see where this goes, as there was really only introductions to everything in book one.
I really liked the direction book two took, and the mystery around the history of Morgan. I am really enjoying how quick these are as well, as I think they are great reads when you want something short and sweet. They have kept my interest so far, and I am excited to continue the series.
Book three was just as good, and I am still loving the series. I always had an odd feeling when it came to Cal, and I still do! I show more cannot wait to see what other secrets unravel in the series. I think I am going to pick up the next few books on audio, but I am sad to see what the whole series does not appear to be on audio. I will probably leave the rest for when I want something quick and fun to help pull me out of slumps. show less

Cal and Morgan's relationship is utterly contrived, but it is still an enjoyable read, and I think I'm learning a lot about Wicca in the process. I'll keep going with the series.
I don't know what it is about these books, but they suck me in every time. I love the excitement of Morgan discovering who she is and what she can do. A wonderful read that you will stay up all night to get through if you have to.
Sweep is the 3 book encompassing novel by Cate Tiernan. Published seperately originally, Sweep contains the 1st three books of the series, Book of Shadows, The Coven, and Blood Witch.
Meet Morgan, a average teenager, with friends in several different crowds, though she belongs to none. All is normal in her life util one day she meets a new student who has transferred to her school, Cal. And with his arrival her life turns upside down, and then some. Cal is a witch. Practicer of the craft, and follower of Wicca. Slowly he gathers new friends, and invites them all to a party, where he asks them to join him in a circle, as a celebration. His reasoning - he is building an Coven, and is in search of a blood with - and Morgan happens to be show more one, only she has no idea she is.
The 3 books follow Morgan's rapidly chaing life, and friends as she learns about herself - that she is a blood witch, she's very powerful, descended from the "original seven clans", and adopted. she loses who has been her best friend for years because the new boy Cal chose Morgan and not her friend Bree. She gains new friends, but new enemies as well, all while trying to learn more about her real parents and her heritage.
Tiernan has a good thing here, I could not put this down, and am hungry for more. Her writing style flows very well, anf with multiple plots wound together its easy to follow, and keeps the reader interested. With what I will say are true notes about Wicca, and the craft as a whole, she brings a touch of fantasy in to the reality of Wicca today for a well written and intriguing tale. show less

I read all of the first book and 1/4 of the second. I just couldn't finish it. It's a thinly veiled romance novel that is shallow and boring. The characters are teenage stereotypes in the worst way. I would not recommend it to any age group.
