I loved this book. It was great fun. The whole precept of a boy educating a girl about quicksand as she is slowly consumed by quicksand is very funny. Also, his assistants being a barrage of jungle animals that include a monkey who enjoys a good formal English tea is comedy gold. I loved the entire thing.
A topic you don't see as often in children's science books, told in a playful way.
Summary: This is an educational story about a girl who gets stuck in some quicksand in the jungle, and she is not sure how to get out. A helpful boy comes along and explains to her the reason quicksand is dangerous and why it is easy to get stuck in it. He goes into the science behind it and he explains how water and air can affect what it does.
Comments: This book about be perfect for young learns, ranging from kindergarten to 3rd grade. For some reason, many children's worst fear is quicksand. I remember being terrified of quicksand as a child, even though it is not abundant where I live at all. I think this book would be intriguing for students and I would add this story to my future classroom.
This story, The Quicksand Book, is about a young girl who is swinging from a vine and lands in a full bath of quicksand. She is spotted by a jungle boy who is very educated on quicksand. While she is sinking, he explains to her ways to avoid quicksand and how to help yourself get out of quicksand efficiently. When he finally helps her escape, she is relieved. He then slips on a turtle and falls in himself; the young girl reminded him of his own rules and enjoys her cup of tea. This book is humorous and clever; students will enjoy the comedy of the story and the fun facts about quicksand.
Good for primary students.

This book begins when a "jungle girl" falls into quicksand. The main character then educates her about quicksand and eventually saves her.

This book would be good to supplement a science experiment that involves making quicksand (it has instructions for this in the back).
This book was about a boy explaining to a girl that's stuck in quicksand all about quicksand. Like what it is and why it is sinking. This book is very interesting because it shows diagrams and gives kids the true facts of quicksand and not just what they see in movies as well as how to prevent sinking in quick sand. I really liked how in the end their is a quicksand recipe so then you could make that with the class and be able to see it in real life and maybe test different objects in the sand. This book could be a good tool to use in a lesson.
Jungle Girl gets caught in quicksand. Will Jungle Boy help her get out? Not until he teaches her all about quicksand first.
This a reprint of the title originally published int 1977. The facts about quicksand are delivered in a cute and humorous manner. The book is recommended for optional purchase for a collection on quicksand or the author.
