Description

With the same razor-sharp insight and biting humor displayed in Waiting for the Galactic Bus, The Snake Oil Variations returns to the Earth--and the heaven--created by Barion and Coyul, two vastly superior beings from another part of the universe who created humanity while waiting for a lift.

A hilarious view of religion and its place in our world. The second of two books, God and Satan are in hot water again. This time God is on trial for creating man and Satan is in a civil trial after he is bombed in his salon. There is a fun riddle in this book: Figure out the real identities of the two lawyers. Marcus Aurelius presides and Jesus takes the stand.

What is really on trial is our view of religion and its place in our lives and our country. What is a hero and what is a hollow vision of one.

What makes this book a great read is its skewering of every one of our preconcieved notions. What is heaven and what is hell and which one has matching his and hers bathrooms - blue for boys and pink for girls.
A so-so attack on media evangelism, or at least the "Gawd" preferred by its practitioners. I preferred the film "Elmer Gantry" that came from a novel, but if you haven't seen or read that item yet, this'll be fun.
