Another really fun one. A true milestone in the Trixie series: Dan actually got to go somewhere with the Bob-Whites!! Hey, I think it's the first and only time, poor guy. The Bob-Whites are in the Catskills, at Miss Trask's family home, which is a pirate themed inn! Miss Trask, girl, you have been holding out on us. Who knew she was so cool? And there's a real mystery to be solved. One of her ancestors disappeared in a room full of people, seconds before he would have been arrested by British soldiers. Miss Trask's brother, Frank, announces he's solved the mystery and right before he is able to explain, he disappears too!
His loan is due to be paid, and the safe is empty. Miss Trask doesn't know where he hid the money, but if the show more Bob-Whites don't find Frank before seven o'clock, the Inn will belong to Nick, who loaned Frank the money. show less

This is another that I've just now read for the first time - I don't think it would have ranked among my favorites as a kid but I'm still finding it very interesting, reading new (to me) stories that involve very old favorite characters.
The best part being the revelation that Trixie has a favorite book series, that happens to be about a girl spy/detective - up until now I don't think Trixie read anything longer than the Bob-Whites' meeting minutes.

Entertaining but not especially good. The pirate theme is pretty fun, I'll admit.
A childhood favorite re-visited.
Is the story as good as I remember? – Yes
What ages would I recommend it too? – Ten and up.
Length? – Most of a day’s read.
Characters? – Memorable, several characters.
Setting? – Real world, pre - computer, pre - air conditioning, pre - cell phone.
Written approximately? – 1979.
Does the story leave questions in the readers mind? – Ready to read more.
Any issues the author (or a more recent publisher) should cover? Yes. A slight mention of the time frame of the story - as the teens are given far more freedom to come and go as they please than would be safe today. Also, the absence of computers and cell phones.
Short storyline: Trixie Belden, Honey, Jim, Brian, Mart, and Diana go with Mrs. Trask show more on a weekend trip to visit her brother in their childhood home - an old inn. Her brother mysteriously disappears, and Trixie has to find him to save him, and the inn.
Notes for the reader: A great mystery! No violence and no murder. This was fun, as Trixie is now an avid reader and finds that her favorite author is staying at the inn, and is also the author of Mart's favorite series! show less
