OK, technically I listened to this "book". But when the last best hope for scary monolithic world domination of information - Amazon, says it is a book...I just say yes ma'am! After finishing David Sedaris: Live at Carnegie Hall, I'm getting in line to read his other concerts or listen to his other books...whatever...because he is hilarious! Apparently, I'm unbelievably late to the David Sedaris bandwagon, as friends of both my children and my parents have politely asked what took me so long? Sure, I allowed myself to get distracted by Comedy Central, You Tube, HBO, and Oprah (Oprah?...forget it, he's on roll.)I had forgotten there were folks writing really funny stuff. Jonathan Swift, Will Rogers, Woody Allen, Lewis Grizzard, and show more virtually every national political campaign since 1968 are all wonderfully funny reads, but starting with the Jackie Gleason Show my funny bone was distracted by the shiny lights and "How sweet it is!!". By the time Robin Williams and Bill Murray came along I had long ago abandoned trying to read something funny. Other than an odd John Irving novel, I rarely came across a reading inspired laugh. Now that has changed, and after my ribs heal I will read the rest of his works. show less
David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall is a recording of excerpts from Sedaris 2002 tour, recorded at Carnegie Hall. Repeat After Me is a piece that explores the use of family anecdotes, in this case, of his somewhat paranoid sister Lisa, for material in his books and essays. Hilarious throughout, the last line none-the-less brings a lump to the throat. Who’s the Chef explores dinner party conversations and one-up-manship. Lesson Three explores going clothing shopping with Amy; Lesson Four, male accessories, in particular an external catheter. Six to Eight Black Men explores local gun laws and Christmas customs in foreign countries. As a Cloggie, this one was particularly entertaining. Throughout, Sedaris self-deprecating manner and show more original humour has the audience rolling in the aisles. show less
The previously uncollected Christmas story on this CD,(now in the updated edition of Holidays on Ice), "Six to Eight Black Men," is so funny, I literally had to pull over to the side of the road when I listened to it for the first time. It was raining, and I was laughing so hard that I couldn't see where I was going anymore. While Me Talk Pretty One Day is my favorite collection of his, that story is by far my favorite.
I love David Sedaris' essays, but they are even better when he tells them. My favorite on this cd is the one about Saint Nicholas.
The thing about NPR being a conspiracy of Jews--brilliant. Also, the Stadium Pal. I think about it a lot. I mean, not that I would want one, but that it was kind of a good idea, too bad it didn't work.
David Sedaris (humor) on audio.
I've heard most of these stories before, but they never get old. This is a great collection.
Funny stories...my 1st audiobook...I did enjoy it but I the only cd player i have is in my car so I found it hard to keep starting and stopping as I was only driving locally..not sure I will try a full 10 cd audiobook that way lol
