-- Paul Gallico's protagonist Ada Harris is a charlady living in London. One of her clients fell in love with a Russian woman while doing research for a book in Moscow. Alas, the lovers are unable to communicate. When Mrs. 'Arris wins a trip for two to Moscow she invites her friend Violet Butterfield & hopes to reunite Liz & Geoffrey. The women's adventures (& misadventures) are laugh-out-loud funny. Paul Gallico, author of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, has also sent Mrs. 'Arris to New York, Paris, & Parliament. --
Nice story by Paul Gallico. Wat I don't like is the fact that mrs Arris and mrs Butterfield speak Cockney. and that is quite horrible to read. So no more mrs Harris stories for me
The final charming instalment of the adventures of Mrs Ada Harris, the charwoman with a heart of gold. Mrs Harris and her friend Mrs Butterfield win a trip to Moscow, can they use it to reunite a pair of lovers sundered by the iron curtain? Will Ada get a new TV and Mrs B her much longed for fur coat? Amidst the highly unlikely (but entertaining) diplomatic shenanigans Gallico also describes what it was like to be a tourist in Soviet Russia - I travelled there 10 years later (in 1984) and can vouch for the authenticity! There are some laugh aloud funny moments too. You could read this as a stand alone but I'd recommend reading the others in the series first.
