An amazing story. A teenage girl is forced by the court to live with her alcoholic mother. She must hide the abuse because the alternative is so much worse. Claire manages to find friendship, love, and ultimately freedom in a powerfully written novel. As far as I can tell, the only novel of an enormously talented author.
Classic lurid YA problem novel of the 1970s. Totally great, I really enjoyed it.
