Ghost of Hoppers (A Love & Rockets Book)

I just finished rereading this, and am surprised to realize that Jaime Hernandez has been breaking my heart in ever more sophisticated ways for more than 20 years now. I cannot think of another example (perhaps with the exception of Doonesbury) of a narrative, graphic or otherwise, sustained over such a long period, in which the characters, minor and major, continue to grow and take on more depth, while the narrative continues to probe our sorest and most vulnerable spots.
