lquilter Okay, fourth wall fans -- If you loved Mo Willems', "We Are in a Book!" you will also enjoy Viviane Schwarz's "There Are No Cats in This Book" -- animals trying to escape the book! And Schwarz's book has very very clever inserts.

This is an adorable book about cats trying to escape the book, so it brings story telling into reality. These 3 cats want to leave the book and see the world. This entire book is written as the 3 cats speaking and makes it easy for different character voices which is fun to be read aloud. This book is interactive and leaves room for the readers to wish along with the cats as well it has pop up pages in the book. By the end of this story more cats join the book and everybody becomes friends.
The cats are trying to escape the book to go on adventures. Hilarious and quite cute, I love it.

Oh this is lovely, I'd read it aloud to older preschoolers, my toddler was too grabby with the pages. The cats from There are Cats in this Book decide to go on holiday and see the world. Again the wonderfully cut pages work with the cats' lively personalities to bring the book alive.
My (6yo) child was highly amused by this book, and I was amused too. Very nice use of inserts.

Clever and cute enough, but metafiction is on-trend and so there are better examples. ?áMy own benchmark is H.T.'s Press Here.

The three cats from the first book (There Are Cats in This Book) want to go on a trip to see the world, but they are having trouble getting out of their book. After a few attempts, they succeed, and they return - with friends!
