There are some people who may want to kill me for this review.

Paulo Coelho disappointed me. Sure, there were some interesting observations.

On the whole, however, I thought he had searched the internet for a lot of inspirational material, and cobbled it together to sound mystical.

It brought almost no new insight for me and left me feeling cold.
This was a nice little book, and it is a book that lends itself to rereading. It also lends itself to simply browsing around. It is basically a collection of sayings, quotes, and meditations. These are framed by a small prologues and epilogue. I think the main message is one of striving to be better, to improve oneself. Sure, one makes mistakes once in a while, but that is part of the experience of life. It's what you do with defeats; it's how you learn and grow. While I still prefer Coehlo writing fiction, this is still a good, easy read.
3.5 stars

I've read most of Coelho's work by now, & I'm never disappointed - there is always something for me to learn.
However, I've come to realize that I do prefer his works that are a bit more plot-driven than this one.
So while I can see myself returning to this book for life lessons every now & then, I can't say it's one of my favorites.
Insightful and inspirational, I shall be keeping this book with me for a very long time. Many things are offered for you to contemplate, allowing you to return to your souls path. A wonderful book for those who live by the light.
Typical new age 'claptrap' crap. Parsed out in vague phrases and attempting to use euphemisms and vague color language and flowery prose. Typical of Coelho. Contradictory, saying basically everything and nothing, to get people thinking its deep.

This is a book packed with truisms that reads like a charmless and preachy almanac. After The Alchimist this was a massive disappointment.
