Valley of Rainbows

Cody Hunter is a contractor who comes from the mainland to the Big Island of Hawaii to build a large annex to the cultural center. Liann Murphy, who grew up on the island, works for the Hawaiian Cultural Institute and she's assigned to be Cody's go-between and peacemaker with the locals during his stay since he's running into some trouble with them. She's helping to familiarize him with the local customs and beliefs of the island. Cody may not believe in all the local legends but he's enjoying his time spent with Liann more and more, and although Liann shares the mutual attraction, she's feeling a bit gun-shy from being hurt before.

Very cute and enjoyable story with two extremely likable leads. I also liked Tutu Lily, an old Hawaiian show more woman also known as the Bird Lady, who opposed Cody's project and was always giving him a fair amount of grief over it. I loved that the story was rich with Hawaiian culture. I enjoyed when Liann and Cody went sightseeing and the places they visited--Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park (City of Refuge), Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the black sand beaches. Lovely and lighthearted story with an appealing cast of characters, and the beautiful sights of Hawaii. show less
