Getting really into the folksy world heritage tales over here, though this one goes a bit overboard on "a boy and his kappa"-type sentiment.
A young boy saves a kappa, who later returns the favor. RESPONSE: This book is a lovely work that depicts the Industrial Revolution of Japan and the cultural and environmental toll it took on the nation. THEMES/CONCEPTS: industrial revolution, Japanese mythology, environmentalism, tradition vs. innovation
