Short biography
Graham Blackburn was born and trained in London, England. He built his first house in Woodstock, NY over twenty-five years ago. Since then he has written five novels and more than a dozen books on all aspects of housebuilding, interior carpentry, and basic woodwork, as well as books on traditional woodworking, cabinetmaking, furnituremaking, handtools, and design, together with books on philately and sailing.

While running his own custom furnituremaking shop—selling nationwide and exhibiting at some of the country's top shows—he also became a frequent contributor to leading magazines such as Fine Woodworking, Popular Woodworking, and Woodwork—-of which he was also the Editor-in-Chief for a number of years.

A neat book. In some ways it's similar to Charlie Wing's "Visual Handbook of Building and Remodeling", although where the Wing book's drawings are computer-generated and slick, Blackburn's are hand-drawn and charming. The discussion on stairs and how to build them was the most useful part for me, along with how to install a used window, both casement and double-hung styles.

Clear instructions and diagrams to some interesting projects, many more artisinal than mundanely functional
