Sir James Galway takes us on a delightful journey through his past in this
light and entertaining memoir. We meet his family, his teachers and even his landladies
as we reminisce with him about how he came from a lad in Belfast to the Sir James we
know today, world renowned flutist.

In a telling that feels more like a conversation with the great man himself, we learn a little about his time with the BBC Orchestra, The London Symphony Orchestra, The Berlin Philharmonic and beyond. He never forgets to mention the kindness of others he encountered on his way.

He tells about meeting and marrying the love of his life, Jeanne. She too, is a flute player and one is made aware that there is harmony in their private lives as well as onstage, where they sometimes perform together.
I have to think that the endearing tone of this book is like that of the man himself. He still remembers and visits friends in Belfast, where he was a boy. He thinks of them fondly and considers them friends, still. They and so many others he has met along the way clearly affected him deeply.

I enjoyed and respected hi as a musician before reading this, but now, I respect him even more as a
decent human being with a soft heart and bright spirit.

This book is not as enjoyable as Legends but it a nice set of flute and piano music performed by Phil Coulter and James Galway. The CD has narration by Liam Neeson.
