This tall book of nursery tales is quite charming. I think it contains some of the best tales for children and the illustrations are lovely. After reading some of the previous reviews, I think that some people are confusing true fairy tales with nursery tales; these are mostly nursery tales aimed at younger children and are meant as lessons for life. Someone commented that they were surprised that this book was reprinted since the stories are "pretty antiquated." (I have the original print). I found this amusing since the original printing is 1944, and aren't most fairy tales and nursery tales "antiquated?" It's a lovely book and any child would appreciate having it read to them or reading it themselves.… (more)

Best book of fairy tales for kids that i've found. The stories are short enough that they hold toddlers attention, but detailed enough that they still make a good story. Beautiful illustrations.

This was my favourite fairy tale collection when I was a child. My grandmother read this to me so many times that the book fell apart in the end, and I've just bought a new copy for sentimental reasons. The illustrations are wonderful, not the sickly sweet stuff you often find in this type of books, but funny and sometimes a bit strange images. I remember loving them as a child. The book contains 24 short fairy tales or stories.

This book, like The Tall book of Fairy Tales, is annoyinglly tall. The illustrations are awful, though the retellings of the stories are okay. It contains a variety of classics of a more moralistic than romantic bent. Included are retellings from the Grimms, Andersen, Aesop, and more.
