The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is a magnificent museum consisting of 4 separating buildings accessible via underground tunnels only. For such a vast collection, this 74-pages book does a surprisingly fine job in summarizing the art pieces into the various categories from ancient cultures to contemporary art, as well as special homage to Quebec and Canadian arts. The photos highlight key pieces from Picasso to Dali, as well as Henry Moore, and other sculpture pieces, both indoors and outdoors. The numerous photos provide examples of the art categories as well as artists and brief descriptions. And they have Napoleon’s hat too! A beautiful painting by Gabriel Max call “The Raising of Jairus’ Daughter” was used as advertisement for the museum, and I was glad to find it in the book too. It’s a wonderful souvenir to bring home.… (more)

The catalogue from a drool-inducing exhibition of Japanese kogo (kougou), or ceramic incense containers. Who knew that mustachio-ed ol' Clemenceau would have such great taste? Photos are mainly black-and-white, although there are some gorgeous colour plates at the front also.
