Crafter and social media influencer Luna Rossi can't believe it when the application she submitted for her brother, Colton, and his fiance, Declan, was enough to get them on The Wedding Game, a television competition show with fabulous prizes. Divorce lawyer, Alec Baxter doesn't want to have anything to do with The Wedding Game, but his estranged brother, Thad and his fiance, Naomi need him to make the third member of their group for the show. Alex reluctantly agrees and immediately finds himself both attracted to and frustrated with Luna.

The Wedding Game is based on the unique premise of a wedding competition show, but there is so much focus on the relationship of the main characters with their brothers, that the romance is overshadowed. Neither Alec nor Luna are very likable characters, so it is difficult to care about what happens to them throughout the narrative. Also, the pacing of the plot adds to a general feeling of boredom while reading the book. While there are some humorous moments, overall, The Wedding Game is a pretty lackluster novel.

DNF On page 117
I just don't like these two characters and the situation isn't funny. Since I'm just not enjoying the story, I'm just going to stop. One interesting thing about this novel is that even though it isn't a special edition, there are illustrations throughout the book.

Well, after DNFing this book, I actually went back and finished it. So many of the reviews I read were glowing, and I just thought, "What am I missing?" I'm afraid, not too much, but I still found some things to like about it. The island wedding setting is wonderfully described - felt like being there, and there is some humor that I didn't find early on in the book. Many of the games and activities that the wedding party plays prior to the wedding are hilarious - an ass crack sneeze just about put me in tears, but I still find the two protagonists unlikable. They do crash the wedding for their own purposes, and I find Brody to be way too wishy-washy. Overall Bridesmaid for Hire is worth the read, but just barely.… (more)

Aubree Rowley has been struggling to keep the family potato farm afloat after the death of her sister Cassidy. Aubree was infuriated to learn that half of the farm was left to Wyatt, the brother of her sister's late husband. Wyatt has no interest in the land and is currently sleeping on the couch of his best friend, Laurel after his fiance left him the night before what was to be their wedding day. Laurel wants Wyatt to get his act together, so she comes up with a plan for a marriage of convenience to Aubree that would benefit them both, and as crazy as it seems, it may just work if their feelings for one another don't get in the way first.

The Reason I Married Him is a fun rom-com with some serious topics. The abuse that Aubree and her siblings suffered as children makes for some emotional moments as well as the depression that Wyatt faces after his fiance leaves him. One of the strongest parts of the book, is the banter between Aubree and Wyatt, which lifts this novel beyond just a typical marriage of convenience story and develops the characters in an entertaining way. Even though the book is a bit too long with some repetition, overall, The Reason I Married Him is well worth the read.
