USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn's second book in the Getting Lucky series brings heart, humor, and heat back to Port Snow. There are two little words every small-town man dreads: She's back. Harper Sanders, the girl who was supposed to be my forever, has returned to Port Snow, Maine, for good--and she's bringing back memories of our shared past. We once had a bright future together, but when tragedy struck, I threw it all away and pushed her out of my life. People in our small town think I'm cursed, but I know better. I did it all to myself. And now she's creating a life of her own in the place where we first fell in love. I can't fight my feelings for her--or the strong attraction that keeps pulling us together. But after all this time, can she forgive the past and fall in love with me all over again? Everyone hopes to find that forever girl...I just hope I haven't lost mine for good.… (more)

This didn't work for me.
The banter between the brothers is good even funny at times.
The curse situation, maybe it's just me but I didn't get it, they are letting it rule their lives. It was a bit ridiculous.
Dual POV.
Flashback alternative chapters.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
No cheating.
No other woman/man drama except an experience related from the past.
The Hero broke up with the heroine, there is a lot involved but basically although they were engaged he completely cuts her off.
The situation is extreme but he is very cruel.
When they meet back up he is continually cruel to her, rude in front of others until around 50% of the book.
He makes it clear he doesn't want her back in town, publicly, and even when she begs him to stop, crying he still carries on.
He says it's because he loves her but they can't be together but I found him very dislikeable.
The heroine says“Don’t make this harder than it already is. I know this must be fun for you, acting like we’re great friends, but this hurts for me. So let’s just be cordial and get through these next few weeks, okay?”
When I read the blurb I thought the book would be about getting her back but it's pushing away then trying to get her back after around 55% mark, it wasn't soon enough for me.
I found some of the banter between the Hero and heroine childish later on.
There are references to the couple in book 1 and other characters are developed for future books.

HEA. If you trust him.

This is a bit harder for me to rate. Certain parts of this story I LOVED while other parts I struggled with. That is hard for me to admit considering that I adore this author with everything that I am. Normally, I connect with the characters that this author writes but for some reason, Rogan and Harper never really managed to get me invested in them.

I struggled with how long it took for Rogan to decide to show Harper that he still loved her, especially after being so cruel to her when she came back home. For a man that had followed through on so many of the dreams that they had shared together, it just didn't make much sense to me. Harper's reason for coming back seemed to come very late in the story too. So late in fact that I worried if it was even going to be addressed or if this was going to become two books because it was so close to the conclusion. That was another thing that frustrated me on this one. Everything seemed so rushed towards the end which made me sad because I really wanted that a little more flushed out.

That being said, The text banter between the brothers had me cracking up. I am loving the connection between all these brothers and "the curse" especially knowing that there are two brothers to go. There is also a plot twist that I didn't see coming. Even with the flashbacks, I had NO idea of a certain something in regards to Rogue. Even though this wasn't my favorite from this author it was still very good and I would recommend it. ( )

Harper and Rogan were best friends since sixth grade, then a couple, and finally engaged when it all goes wrong and they separate. Seven years later Harper returns to Port Snow, the small town in coastal Maine where they grew up and must confront her ex. Rogan returned home after their breakup, but he's remained morose and driven, even though he was the impetus for the separation.
I didn't read the first book in the series, but it doesn't matter; this is a stand-alone book. I enjoyed the characters, especially in the flashbacks to how their relationship developed. Harper's growth was well-done, though the resolution to the reason she returned home was a little anticlimactic and rushed. Rogan in the present was difficult to like at first, but the author does a nice job in bringing out the reasons for his behavior and making the changes in him believable. The New Orleans curse bit was a little hokey, I thought but didn't matter really.
This was an enjoyable second-chance romance read, and I'll definitely see what the next two Knightley boys get up to. ( )
