Joke Verweerd

I found "The Winter Garden" (Johanna Verweerd) to be difficult to read. Perhaps it is because it is translated from the Dutch it was written in originally. I felt that the story lurched along instead of flowing smoothly. Some parts got lots of attention while others got almost an overview. For instance, the main character abruptly was able to deal with some issue, but we did not get to read the process by which the character came to her new revelations. I liked the "flashback" technique used to tell the main character's back-story.

I won't be keeping this book in my library, and will not look for other books by the same author.… (more)
