About meAbout me:
Okay, well, I live in San Francisco, a City that's, well, alive. Alive with Story.
No matter how Great the Good, or how Challenging the Difficult, Life is felt. That's why I'm here...for many things, actually. Mostly, I'm here for the stories. One's I write today, and those I will write. Many have found themselves put down on paper or pixel. Others will surprise even their author.
But most of the City's stories are not mine. My works are dwarved by their might and meaning. And you're surrounded by them, from one block to the next. A sideways glance through an open window one early morning, as on a brisk walk you turn your head, uncertain why, and there...! You saw a sliver of humanity that still lives long after you're blocks past, becoming real even as you continue your own tale.
Stories grow and entwine in this City, and its an amazing process to witness. Sometimes, even, to escape.
After eight years doing sales & marketing work as a Senior HIV/AIDS Specialist in the pharmaceutical industry, I decided to be the Hero I've always believed I was. And so I embraced my own Hero’s Journey: a leap from the known to the unknown, to pursue a dream and a passion no matter the struggle. My passion - of becoming a comic book creator and writer - has guided me and been my sustaining light. This road I follow is that of becoming a comics creator.
Present Magic Comics, my own imprint, was established in late 2005. For three years work has moved forward, with determination and the next step - production - is on the horizon. The Hero is coming home, and with him, he'll bring the next big summer blockbuster!
[Note: If you've got a passion for comics, and perhaps would like to join our growing new team, or have interest in self-publishing, website design, or business management, please feel free to email me for more information. My books on LibraryThing have been chosen to give any viewer some understanding of my interests that both fuel this project, as well as an understanding of the scope of research alone that I have undertaken in the past several months. Thank you.]
While breaking new territory as a comics self-publisher, I have also put my love of comics to use as a bookseller and as a comic book teacher. My high school class, Comics University -- as well as a series of comics-based workshops I developed, entitled Infinity, Incorporated -- target literacy by using the medium of comics to teach comic book storytelling while enhancing students’ abilities in English, reading, and writing. Both have been successfully implemented around the Bay Area, including Mount Diablo High School in Concord, CA, and San Francisco’s literacy-based non-profit organization, 826 Valencia (founded by Mr. Dave Eggers.)
I also completed a graduate studies program at CalState Fresno in 2006 entitled "Comic Book Creation and Storytelling" under the tutelage of Scott McCloud and Jessica Abel.
In my spare time, I'm usually surrounded by my collection of action figures and comics, research and printouts...a a few pairs of dance CDs and adidas tennis shoes. I enjoy writing, working out, dancing, experiences you just cant pass up no matter what, and overall, I love to read, especially anything from the mind of Mr. Grant Morrison. He's brilliant and real and I respect him. His mastery of the comics medium is vast. He's an inspiration, a teacher, and a guide to push this amazing medium forward evermore...while assuring everyone to take life less seriously if the meaning in it all is to be found.
About my libraryMy library is a collection of my interests and my passions. The books I've cataloged here are, for the most part, integral to my self-education along my Hero's Journey. A few of mixed in for fun or need, too. Of course the real library lies elsewhere...not on the internet nor on any bookshelf, but in long white boxes, some close to three decades old. They are stories of heroes I look up to, and imagination which still fuels the fire inside to keep pushing on, up the steep hill, until you're list on Library Thing finds my latest graphic novel displayed proudly among your many other titles.
