About meAvid reader. Cynical scientist. Poor speller. New mother.
About my libraryMy husband and I are both chemists - there is a heavy selection of "work" books our library - for kicks, I even review a few.
When I was a graduate student in Vancouver BC I started a collection of books on the bomb and cold war science - this is still growing.
I'm a sucker for Canadian literature - especially of the "it's a hard knock life" in the Maritimes variety. This comes from being stuck in NS for 18 years - they were not hard knock.
For more than a decade I have read aloud to my husband as he prepares our evening meal - these are denoted with the "Read Aloud" tag.
After 15 wonderful years of DINKdom, we are starting a family. In preparation for our new daughter (born Sept. 7/2008) I have been reading a lot of book on pregnancy and childcare - all reviewed from the view point of the cynical scientist...
Rating scheme - 5 stars means a brilliant and meaningful read and a great book. 4 stars can mean an excellent but meaningless book or meaningful book that was only good. 3 stars is worth reading. Less than three stars and I regretted the time spent.
