About meWell, before I go much further I should introduce myself. I am Seventy-one, born 9-11-1936. Being a high school drop-out my writing skills should be excused. My First memory of reading I was five years old, living in a hotel in San Diego. My First reading material was Little Golden Books and comic books. I don't know that I will ever stop.

About my libraryMy favorite reading is crime and mystery. I live in such a small apartment that most of my books are in bags and boxes. Since I Joined LibraryThing, I have discovered some old friends.

Dear SleepyJim,

I've noticed that the more books I get entered into my site.. the more books we have in common.

We are of the same generation.. similar educations.. and began reading about the same time in life. Once I got onto the hang of reading to myself, my world really opened up.I can recall many rainy afternoons spent in the attic of my Grandparents farm which was filled with nothing but books, magazines, and newspapers. I believe my favorites up there were the old Tom Swift and his electric whatevers, which belonged to my Uncle, when he was a boy!

I was surprised to see after adding the Ken Kuhlken (Tom Hickey) series to my collection that you didn't have them entered yourself. They center around the San Diego/Tijuana area, especially the first few.. and begin during WWII.

If you haven't checked them out yet, you may like them.

Another Jim.. jastbrown
Hello, Jim! I don't remember seeing your name in my top 50 libraries before, but there I am in yours. Well met! (I am a young thing of 64....can't wait for Medicare!)

71, Keep kickin'! Nice Collection.

No one mentions the Little Golden Books these days, but my mother read them to me nearly every day when I was a pre-school child in the early 1950s. Good to hear them mentioned again.
