About meThis list is spartan because I'm currently living tragically seperated from over 90% of my books. So almost everything here is from memory.

This picture is from one of the most magical places on Earth: the used book market under Waterloo Bridge. I recommend it to every book lover, to the point of writing directions for everyone who visited the bookshop I worked in who happened to be buying London travel books.

(Take the Tube to Embankment, cross Hungerford bridge, and make a left toward Waterloo bridge/British Film Institute. You'll know you're close when you can hear the skateboarders.)

For the record, no, I am not addicted to Penguin books. I can stop buying them anytime I want. Really.

About my libraryNot returning borrowed books will lead you to the special hell, the one reserved for child molestors and people who talk in the theatre.

Hello,
Many thanks for adding me to your list of 'Interesting Libraries'. It's always gratifying when someone finds my library of use and (er) interesting.
With regard to the 'French Resistance',section,I would say that the following would be the best to look for - "Who Lived to see the Day" by Philippe de Vomecourt,, "Courage and Fear" by Remy, "F Section SOE : The Story of the Buckmaster Network" by Marcel Ruby. Finally "A Life in Secrets" by Sarah Helm. If you would like any further titles please do not hesitate to let me know. By the way I have also found a few titles on your list that I didn't know about,so thanks for that too.
Hope the above is helpful to you.
Best wishes
*wavewave* hi!
-aka arielblue :)
I thought The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night Time sucked big time.

Can't wait to dive into your list!
Living away from your books? :-( How do you manage?? I'll make sure to check out The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, that sounds like something I'd enjoy.
Re Stephen Fry: - yes that is a quote from mr Fry.
Re: Curious Incident - It's a very good book - brilliantly written, very funny, you should give it a whirl. As a Potter fan you must know that a book's worth bears no relation to it's popularity.
But The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time "kicks ass"
Hiya. Do you have criteria for all of the books tagged "kick ass"? Thanks, MSC.
I just ordred The Vilde Affair on your suggestion, and cannot wait to get it. I'm ashaimed it's taken me so long. You will be hearing from me soon. Thank you!
Willoughby,
I'm so glad to find a Resistante among the fellow bibliophiles!
I have not yet cataloged all the French Resistance books I've read, but I'll do that next just for you so stay tuned.
In the meantime, here's my favorite:
Sisters in the Resistance : How Women Fought to Free France, 1940-1945
I see you have this as well. So much courage, bravery, and sacrifice is within these pages that I shed many a tear sitting in Starbucks on my lunch-break reading these stories.

Here's an interesting side note: I was visiting a small used bookstore in the mountains one day, and dug up an original printing of: Vichy France
Paxton was a witness on many trials in recent decades that sent French Nazis to jail. Turns out he grew up and went to college in this small mountain town. The book that I paid $15.00 for has the following inscription:
"To Tad and Humphreys, A great addition to Lexington with my best regards, Bob Paxton."
Wow, you loaded 707 books from memory? Good memory
I love that you tagged The Amber Spyglass "kick ass." That book blew my mind!
Hi back! :D Ellis Peters is one of those writers who's been on my list for aaaages, but I've never gotten around to. I'll have to scoot him up several notches.

I'd like to work in a college or university library, but I'm so poor, I'll take what I can get when I finish my degree.

(Oh, and triple bonus points for quoting Firefly!) :D
