Who would have thought a baby could scream quite so murderously? Cook prayed he'd grow out of it, but the child only seemed to get worse. It wasn't an auspicious beginning, but perhaps it was a sign of things to come.

A challenge to read but most timely as half of Europe strengthens its borders against the Syrian migrants. Tragic and prescient. ( )

this is a political treatise rather than a literary piece. Written as Adolph Hitler was coming into world dominance, the protagonist Rudolph Whiteley shares much with Hitler (Rudolph-Adolph?). He is diminutive in stature, has a white unhandsome face, and comes to power much as the real Hitler did, by relying on cronies kept about him with particular strengths and beliefs. This would be most interesting to political buffs. ( )
