Kristen Hannah explores the topics of marriage, friendship, women serving in the military and PTSD in her novel, Home Front. Jolene Zarkades, a female helicopter pilot, serving in the National Guard is called to active duty in Iraq just when she finds out her marriage to Michael is in trouble. Her best friend, Tami, also a helicopter pilot is deployed at the same time. What develops is the story of how family and friends cope when disaster strikes. This novel is a good reminder of how war can affect those who actively serve as well as how it can change those who are left behind on the home front. ( )

I read this for an upcoming book group. This is not the type of book I usually seek out and there were moments I just wanted it to be over. That being said, I believe the story is well written and that it gives a fairly accurate portrayal of the military situation this country is now in. Those of us not involved really don't get it. This books gives a glimpse into that world, showing the challenges faced by the soldier and family. ( )

Oh, Kristin Hannah! How do you do it? This was another tear jerker so be prepared. I have read so many military romances/books over the last few years. It is very rare to find one that was following a women in the military and being deployed. This is a very raw look into War and what it can do to a family when a family member leaves and returns from War. It gives a look into the very real PTSD and the toll it can take after War. Overall, another home run from this author. ( )

But after twelve years together, the couple has lost their way; they are unhappy and edging toward divorce. Then the Iraq war starts.
