"When a new life beckons, a dutiful Amish woman must decide what she owes her family...and what she owes herself. Since her mother's death, Naomi Esch has been devoted to caring for her father and siblings, sacrificing any hope of finding love or having a home of her own. Still, working at the local bakery and expanding her beekeeping business gives Naomi a satisfying sense of purpose. Then, in the weeks before Christmas, her father announces his plan to immediately remarry. He and his new wife need the house for themselves, and suddenly Naomi's life is turned upside down. But new opportunities soon come her way. Her youngest brother finds Naomi a place to stay, and widower Nathan King offers his sprawling farmland to Naomi to continue her business--on the condition that she care for his children. The setup is so perfect that the community assumes a wedding will inevitably follow. Yet Naomi has vowed never to marry without love. And to Nathan she's merely convenient help. Now, for the inhabitants of Pleasant Valley, uniting these two stubborn souls may take a Christmas miracle"--… (more)

After her mother’s death, Naomi devoted herself to helping her father raise her siblings. Now past the time when most young women are married, she keeps house for her dad and raises bees. All that changes when her dad announces that he is remarrying, and she should go live with her brother and help his wife with their kids. Naomi doe something quite unexpected: she respectfully disobeys her father to make own way. What she does and how she copes makes for some very interesting reading. An engrossing plot peopled with well-developed characters makes this Christmas tale special indeed. ( )

This story is one of my favorites in this series. Naomi Esch starts out working part-time in the bakery, being content as a spinster caring for her family and working with her bees. But two things happen that will change her life completely. Her father announces his surprise, upcoming marriage, with plans for Naomi to sell her bees and move in with her brother's family. Naomi doesn't like any of her father's plans. So . . she asks Nathan King (a widower with two young children, who was married to Naomi's best friend), if he would let her put her bees on his farm. Nathan needs someone to watch his children during the day temporarily so agrees to the bees, if she will agree to taking care of his children. Thus begins a slow moving romance that was very enjoyable to watch. There will be many difficulties they both will face from family members and the community, but in the end Naomi will have a very special Christmas. Loved how the author ended this story (and I think ended the series). ( )

I was looking forward to reading this book and was glad to get it before Christmas. It was an enjoyable quick read and I enjoyed these characters as I have in the other books in the series. The author also does not shy from putting in controversial topics and characters in her books and this is no exception with Nathan's former sister-in-law, Jessie, who is mentally ill. I think this was handled well as she also does with the problems of genetic diseases in earlier books. ( )

If you have been following the other books in this series, this one will not be a disspointment. Although it is set at Christmas time, the plot could have occurred at any time of year. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the plot moves along well. ( )
