My first thought about the description is the hologram: having an image of William Shatner as Captain Kirk is enough to turn me off the whole concept. Yuk. But – Regan Hawk uses the holograms in such a clever and convincing way that both Roman and Destiny are both lifelike and enticing. This clever plot manages to take the “no office romance” standard and turn it on its ear as both participants have secretly been fantasizing and sublimating their desires for one another for ages.

Clever insertion of unusual and well-imagined machines, characters that provide a sizzle just in their descriptions and ramping up the heat factor exponentially when the two manage to put aside their hologram lovers for the real thing makes this a story that will have the stars glowing.

I won’t say the usual line about short stories and say I want more, because as an introduction to this pair, their chemistry and the idea of holographic and mechanical sex toys and machines to test limits and prepare readers and characters for pleasure were all achieved. The author has a smooth and crisp writing style that creates images and desires in a reader, and leaves them well satisfied. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!
