"The Secret Loves of Geek Girls is a non-fiction anthology mixing prose, comics, and illustrated stories on the lives and loves of an amazing cast of female creators. Featuring work by Margaret Atwood (The Heart Goes Last), Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer), Trina Robbins (Wonder Woman), Marguerite Bennett (Marvel's A-Force), Noelle Stevenson (Nimona), Marjorie Liu (Monstress), Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), and over fifty more creators. I read about half in one day and the other half way later on another day. I skimmed through quite a bit. It was honestly just kind of boring which bummed me out because it looked so cute! ( )

This is a lovely, gratifying collection of perspectives on what it's like to fall in and out of love as a geek girl and that how we choose to love is A-OK. The representation is super inclusive and spans a lot of geekery. There were a few essays I chose to skip when they pertained to a certain kind of geek life that I don't participate in and had a harder time following, but almost all the other essays were SPOT ON. Exuberant collection of essays and graphics celebrating the thrill of fandom: how wonderful it is to truly enjoy something, particularly in the company of like-minded others. ( )

Lost interest at 50%..
There were some good stories there but it was so uneven I felt bored after a while..

This anthology wasn't quite as solid as I was hoping for. Some of the writing styles I found low quality or the voices just too grating. I kind of wish it was an all-comic anthology. There were some stand-outs for me, though. I think the strongest contributions were the ones that came at a more analytical standpoint. I think there is something in here for (nearly) everyone - women are represented all across the LGBTQ spectrum, including one comic by a trans artist. ( )
